Wendy's Lesson

I couldnt help it! Wendy was really good in her presentation today! Her lesson was ultra well planned and the way she guided her students into going through each section of her lesson was wonderful. She considered her students' answers, used excellent tasks and materials for reading. She used an audio clip of a tiger's growl. A vocab activity which stimulated students' background knowledge of tigers. On top of a reading passage which she divided into sections, she used a graph which showed the decreasing no of tiger population through the years. There are only two things that I can think of that could help improve Wendy's lesson. 1. Slow dddoowwnnnn, girl! 2. You are too ambitious in preparing your tasks for a 40 minute lesson. I think they should be used for two lessons or a double period lesson. Overall, well done Wen Wen!

  1. The problem of my lesson is very obvious—the pace is too fast. As a result, many students got lost and felt confused in my lesson. For example, when I went through to the next stage, their mind still stayed at the last activity. I kept rushing from one activity to another because I wished my students to learn a lot from my class; however, I really need to slow down and be realistic because students learn at different rates and it’s better to prepare fewer activities and finish the activities fully instead of jumping too fast without good explanation. I need to work on this apparent problem very hard so that in the future my students can follow my lesson and really learn something.
In addition, I have to polish my English and be very familiar with my topic. At times, I was unsure about the vocabulary I used and I made certain grammatical mistakes, unaware of them while giving the lesson.

  2. and she looked gorgeous! I'm sorry I couldn't attend your class Wendy! But you know I believe in you and I know you are a perfectionist and you make sure everything is done the way it should be! I have no doubt at all that your lesson went well!
    Great teacher in progress!

  4. Wendy is really well prepared in her lesson - from the materials, to the handouts and to the presentation itself - it was all smooth sailing because of the amount of effort that she has put in. Good job.

I think Wendy is a very passionate and zealous teacher and it is very good to have teachers who are interested in delivering her lesson the the students, which will then make the students interested as well. However, I have to admit that I sort of got tired listening to Wendy at times because she is giving so many instructions at one go and I find that distracting and I couldn't really focus.

Therefore, maybe Wendy can be a little more laid back and slow down to make sure that all of her students are coping well with her pace. Not every student have the same ability and capability, and some would appreciate if you can accommodate their speed instead.

All in all, it was really a good and well prepared lesson with very refreshing reading materials!

  5. Not much that I can say, since I attended her lesson in the middle stage of it. However, i can tell that she was well-prepared. She scaffolded her students, the instruction was clear. She always give positive reinforcement to the students who give a shot to answer. The topic chosen was informative. It was about tiger. She introduces some new vocabs. The activity with a chart was good. However, there is always room for improvement. She could slow down her pace a bit, and maybe reduce 1 of the activity. Since as a teacher, we must think about what the students can learn and not what we want to teach. All in all, it was a great classroom lead by an awesome teacher!

  6. I like how she used the tiger growl at the beginning of her lesson when she actually told us to guess the 'singer'- it felt like a wake up call! Its a good induction method.

Her lessons had fluid continuity and were very, very compact. I think she was the only one whom used a graph for reading lessons so far? Very refreshing change! Though when she had asked me to do her activity, I was quite confused. She should have given clearer examples and talk slower. :)

She's very VERY enthusiastic which makes it great because student catches on her intensity as well, she could make the class lessons more fun and I'm sure students just can't wait to sit in her lessons.
