Ma Ji's Lesson

Ma Ji, I love your shorts and tshirt. Ma Ji used very attractive clips and pictures to capture his topic of the day: pollution. He related to China and most importantly, encouraged a lot of input from the students. But...

  1. Good points: an interesting and meaningful cartoon photo that is closely related to the lesson today; good powerpoint slides that combined picture, video and words together; lots of input so that students were able to get new information from the lesson; he walked around the during discussion time to ask their opinions and feelings about the task.

Aspects to work on: should have paid attention to the attire—shirt, trousers and shoes instead of flip-flop; need clearer instruction for the task so students don’t get confused; while showing the video, he could have paused for a while to explain to students since the video went very fast and the words sometimes got blurred; while explaining the pictures, he could have had more eye contact with students rather than stared at the powerpoint.

Overall, he did a great job as a teacher today.

    1. Ma Ji's class was on an important topic, it's good to plant an awareness in students mind and let them realize the problems in this world and perhaps make them make some difference.
The class was interesting, a bit practice on the pronunciation would be great just so everything he mentioned would be very clear and understandable. A bit confusion with the task plus the hand out was really tough. But over all, Ma Ji has a great potential to become a very likable teacher!

  2. i agree with wendy. the captions moved fast. it wouldve been more effective if he had paused at the captions and pointed out to his stuidents.

  3. I enjoyed Ma Ji's lesson. He was so relaxed and has a sense of humor. he makes a lot of interaction with the students and he created a stress-free environment inside the classroom. However, the instruction on the activity was not so clear, and the vocabulary also was not that easy to understand since it contains a lot of Science terms. All in all, it was an enjoyable classroom.

    1. I agree with alwana. I think MaJi is a likable teacher and he has sense of humor. The clip was an eye-opening and really interesting. However the captions in clip move too fast and i think low proficiency students won't be able to catch the words. He dug students ideas and encouraged them to speak out. The article was quite difficult and contains lots of advance vocabularies..

  4. The first thing wana and i talked about after he'd finished was, he was very relaxed when he present compared to the other presenters. He doesn't talk much and very laid back, plus his attire some more. But we actually enjoyed his class. This shows that he had a very good pictures and videos and techniques. He relies on that. Overall, I Liked it.

p/s : I love your shirt too and the huge bag you brought coz its PURPLE!. awesome.

  5. Frankly speaking ,I have learned alot from all the presentation so far .. His presentation was so nice ,the topic was cool, information and activities well presented but ,the scientific text are a bit difficult for low english proficiency students , am not sure if the lesson plan is designed for form 2 or 4 ..but it was really nice video , lastly you also came late for your presentation..come early next time :))

  6. So Phyl....you like his big Purple bag aih? Most of you think that the scientific words/margins were too difficult for the students. I couldnt agree more. Your students will show blank faces if you use such words in your sheets. Be aware of those who are not proficient. Another thing I was thinkngof is this new movie called The Lorax has anybody seen it. I think it is a wonderful movie that you guys can use in the classroom esp for teaching the theme: environment. Can anyone search for it pls. Movie review or YouTube clip?
