Joy's Lesson

Joy taught about food. She used various adjectives to describe food. Good choices: sharp, bitter etc. Some were too advanced: epicurean. Her sheets were beautiful but without instructions. Her pre-stage was planned for 10 mins but I think she wouldnt be able to finish within the stipulated time. She could distribute the list of adjectives with meaning AND how they are used in context. The sample written work was not presented although mentioned in the plan. Joy's language use was fantastic. She was composed and calm as a teacher. How do you think she could improve?

  1. As a teacher on the stage, Joy gave students a very warm and friendly feeling, so students feel safe to express their thoughts in the class, which is the most important for me--learning environment. If she can lower the difficulties of the adjectives and select few crucial adjectives to present not all, it will be better. The rest new words students can read on the sheet she distributed. I enjoy her class.

  2. Joy's teaching was fine ,she has nice voice projection and her topic was ok, suitable for her class but she has to reduce the level of the adjectives she listed because some words are too high for the students of that level(form 2) .Furthermore,I will suggest she teach the adjective in context rather than listing them out. (such as writing discription essay).

  3. I like being in Joy's class. She knows how to attract our attention by bringing a very mouth-watering topic. At the very beginning of her class,I think she had done a very good job since she was sharing something about her which is about some of her favorite foods. It makes the class more relax. It also good because she was teaching us new words. Last but not least,it will be better if she spend more time on students' activities.

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for participating in my class and hope you all enjoyed it and took out some new knowledge out of it.
For my part, I would like to apologies for some errors. The vocabulary might have been a bit too high for level 2 students. I also did not present the sample of a description on the board (I only improvised by giving it verbally).
My lesson plan was also quite chaotic which I have to improve on. I lacked of instruction on the work sheet. But all and all I believe I didn't do bad, yet I know I can do better :) Once again, thank you!

  6. I enjoy Joy's class because she taught calmly and didn't tense up the students. She was explaining most of the adjectives but maybe she could choose a few and provide a handout for the students to go through the rest. Pair activity was good and interesting as she used colored pictures and asked the students to describe the foods using the adjectives they've just learnt.

  8. Oh no, I missed your class (except for the last few minutes) since I came in late. I'll just drop a line about what I could gather that day, I like your dress-up! I think its important for a teacher to make an effort to look good because the students are going to look at you all day.

I also like how chirpy you are till the very end of your lesson. It gives an impression that you really like what you do- and feel good feelings are infectious.
