Bunmi's Lesson

Clip choices were excellent. His voice and demeanor were gentle and soouuwweettt. He brought a sombre mood to the lesson highlighting the seriousness of the topic he chose: women battery. He discussed both clips in detail. When a student asked the meaning of 'well up', he asked students to guess from the context and then tried explaining clearly to the student. Anything else?

  1. Good points—Bumin showed us a very calm, mature and stable teacher. The pace of his lesson is easy for students to follow. The videos and the music he has chosen are meaningful and interrelated. Through the relationship of the two videos, he managed to let students related the problem and the way of reducing or overcoming domestic violence. Besides, the listening exercise is a great follow-up work for students to require new vocabulary and improve listening skills.
Aspects to work on: Domestic affairs are a significant issue to explore and discuss. I think Bumin can vary activities such as providing statistics to show the change (increase/decrease) of domestic violence. Much input of the information helps to engage students better in the lesson.

  3. I'm very strong in my opinions in women rights so this topic definitely perk my interest, and I believe the young today (especially in better classes) have strong opinions of their own. Given that, I really enjoyed Bunmi's choice of songs but had wish he provide more information on the topic or even activities that would need the students to express their opinions/ knowledge on the topic more. :)

  4. Bunmi, a very calm teacher.. soft voice.. Suitable for small number of student.. But in a classroom of 40 over student, the class will be out of control.. the lesson was good, I like the song.. but like others said, domestic violence is such a deep topic.. Should include more information for example like what student can do, their responsibility or what action or precaution when facing with domestic violence. :)
