Wang Lin's Lesson

Wang Lin looked nice as a teacher but she needs to improve her interactions with her students. Her lesson was planned well but the way she carried out her activities with her students needs to be more relaxed. There should be more discussions on ecocity farming. Smile and accept more student input. What have I missed?

  1. OMG, I'm the first one. haha..
The topic is quite new and interesting, but I am afraid that students do not have enough backgroud of it, and also not enough explaination for the teacher, so that they can't be really into the class. One more suggestion is, for the listening part, Wang lin, you can play the tape again when students did wrong in the work sheet, it is necessary for those low level students. Anyway, nice lesson plan~ well done

  2. Hi.
Firstly, the topic is interesting, but it’s far away from students’ daily life. I think she needs give more background knowledge to the students. She uses the beautiful countryside picture to attract students’ attention. She has an effective set induction. However, she still need have more communication between students. And the instructions in the worksheet are not clearly. Over all, good job! You can do better next time.

  3. ^_^Your topic Eco City Farm I think was interesting, but when you talked about-for example-greenhouse you may explain more about how different temperature is in different seasons in some other countries because your students were Malaysians. Otherwise, when we finished listening and answered the questions, I noticed that students’ answer may be different. I think it’s better to train their listening skills that let students listen to the tape again after there were mistakes. Others I think is good. Your voice made me feel peaceful and you were very patient to answer students’ questions. And you dressed well, too. Overall, I like your teaching.

  4. Hi everyone,
Wang Lin topic attracted me most because this is different from the Malaysian context. I do not encounter this topic when I was in my secondary school. I love the listening part because it's clear and loud enough. Wang Lin, you should smile more because you're quite strict and this will create a gap between u and your students. Check your activity before you print it out. I was attracted to the video about the worm as well. Last but not least, she did it well and I love her attire as well. Good job Wang Lin ! :)

  5. Most of you highlighted the importance of relating the topic, materials and discussion to something meaningful to the students. Something students are familiar with. For examples, weather, different seasons in non-tropical countries, explanation about the ecocity farm so that students in malaysia would engage better in their lesson. Well opdone. Yes, it IS extremely important to connect with the students. You can ensure this by making sure that students find the topic and content of the lesson meaningful to their learning. There are many wits out there talking about ecocity farms. could anybody search for them and post?

  6. Hi, everyone.
First of all, I’m sorry for the mistakes on my worksheets. Actually I really prepared it well on my laptop but there was something wrong during the printing process.
Secondly, I do need an effective interaction with my students. So I have to search and learn more about what I’m going to teach in my lesson, and practice them in my daily life. In other words, only a knowledgeable and communicative teacher will manage to catch students’ attention and interests. Moreover, I may not connect my group discussion with the video strongly and clearly. I will pay attention to the problem next time.
Last but not the least, thanks for your good suggestions and supporting which will help me improve my lessons in a more efficient and meaningful way.

  7. Hi everyone,

I like your topic chosen in the class which is Eco City Farm. It is new knowledge to me so that it attracted me a lot. I like your pictures and video to help us build up the background. Moreover, I could see that you know your content chosen very well so that you can explain to us. Like other comments, I also agree that you should connect more with your students. Considering the mixed ability students, besides the multiple-choice question, you can give one or two comprehensive or open-minded questions according to the listening. Overall, I like your lesson. Thank you!

  9. 1. the topic is interesting.
    2. She dresses properly.
    3. The listening activity is quite suitable to secondary students.
    4. She still needs more eye contacts and body language.

  10. hi everyone,
The topic that chosen by Wang Ling is very interesting because it is consider as a new thing to us, we are being exposed too much about farming.the video about worm that she shows also great because obviously it manage to gain students' attention to watch and discuss about it.
however, for the activity first of all i think she should prepare enough worksheet for every student. during her lesson, she asked 2or 3 students to share the same paper. Students who don't have the worksheet will tend to lose focus and not interested to do the activity (like what happened to me).
for worksheet 1, vocabulary for comprehension, she should discuss the answers with the students in detail since there were mistakes in the worksheet and not just telling the answer.
Despite of the weakness in worksheet, she did a good job in facilitate students during the group discussion.

  11. Hi!

Firstly, the topic is very interesting that it really attract my attentions. I'm pretty sure that students will be so interested in the lesson later.

Second, the audio that she used in listening activity was very clear even the speaker use American's accent.

On the other hand, Wang Lin could improve her lesson by interacting more with the students and helped them in answering the questions asked. She can paused the audio for a while and guide the students to answer questions.

  12. Some time we can easily find a excellent topic to teach, but the activities we chosen are often not match or suitable with the it. For example, there is not link between the Set induction and Pre stage, or lack of comprehensive exercises and instructions. That is the problem that puzzles me so much.
Based on scaffolding teaching strategy, the teacher should be a facilitator to guided students to deliver their personal point of view or their previous experience. That would be a easier and more effective way.

  13. That's right! The link is not easy to create. It is one thing to get great activities for each lesson stage, it is another to link each stage to perfection. I'll get there! Beautiful thoughts on scaffolding. We often forget that there must be scaffolding in each of the stages tha we go through. That is what I see lacking in your lessons. Ad m talking bat many of you.

  14. Just like Ms.Adelina said she is lacking of interaction with students. She almost stands at a fixed point.
The explanations are boring even it is precisely. I felt it is a good presentation but not a good lesson.
Form the picture and video I can see the effort on this presentation.
