Si Ting's Lesson

A very structured lesson. Good samples of high tech gadgets. I like that you make students predict the content of the article. Good activities planned on cohesive devices, however, some were really challenging. Lucky Si Ting had sts sit in groups. One thing important is to have a discussion before holding a debate in class. Lower prof sts find it difficult to debate, especially without a discussion.

  1. Hi everyone,
Based on my observation, Siting's eye contact with students is good and she focused on the low proficiency as well as high proficiency students as well. The worksheets she gave was clear in terms of instructions and activities. For the Antonyms and Synonyms activity, I think she can starts with 5 easy questions just to make the students feel good with their correct answers and then proceed to deeper questions. On the other hand, I do not agree with the debate activity because it's hard to do it in a 40 minutes class as she already spent most of the time on the previous stage. Besides, low proficiency students will feel lazy to debate as they are not confident with them self. That's just my opinion. Hope to learn more in next presentation. Good job Siting ! :)

  2. Hi!

Si Ting's topic about high tech gadgets is very attractive for students because nowadays kids are very advance in technoloy.

As for the worksheet 1, the task is difficult for a low-profieciency students because it need to be done individually.Pairs work should be fine.

For worksheet 2, the Antonyms and Synonyms activity is good because it make them relate what they have read on passage with the activity. Even though they didn't bring their dictionary, students will be able to answer the questions by reffering to the passage.

Debate activity would be quite difficult to handle in 40 minutes class if we have 40 students! Less idea within limited time.

    Anyway, goob job!

  3. The topic of this lesson is relevant with students’ daily life; it’s easier for students to get into the lesson.

The pre-reading activity is funny. For the work sheet some word and phrase is a little difficult for students.

After all it’s good activity. I think sometimes she speaks too fast, maybe because she’s nervous.

Over all it's a good lesson. Well done!

  4. Good evening everyone and madam Adelina.
First of all, thank you for giving us a nice class about high tech, Siting. I like your topic, it is quite suitable for secondary school students, specially for boys. They just love those things. And the text is also a good choice. Your lesson plan is clear, we could see all the steps one by one. However still some parts you need to improve, just some personaly suggestions. When you talk to your students in class, you may slow down your speed, and make it clear and loud. And one more thing is you need to remember every details about your lesson plan, unless it will confuse both you and your students.
Any way, well done my friend. You will be better next time.

  5. Hello everyone! I have seen your helpful suggestions. Thank you, madam Adelina and my dear friends.

I learnt a lot of things through this teaching practice. One good lesson not only needs good structural lesson plan designed but also teacher's performance in the classroom. I know that there are a lot of things i need to improve. one of these is that i should practice my speaking. It is very important for a teacher to give a clear lesson or instruction. One more thing I noticed is 'time'. Like fifi said, time was not enough for students to conduct a debate. So, discussion among students can be better. At last, this class really provieds a way for us to improve. I learnt and experienced a lot through presentation and all your comments.
    Thank you

  6. The high-tech gadgets is an attractive topic. I doubt pupils might don't understand how to define high-tech. Text selection is good. There might be little time for exercise. Speech speed is fast. I think you are trying to finish all works in time and feel a little bit rush. As madam Adelina said, debate is not suitable in your lesson. Pupils don't have a clear opinion on your topic.
I understand we don't have such long time for our ambitious. Debate needs a lot of preparations. I should learn her confidence during presentation.
    Anyway, Well done.

  7. Siting has a clear instruction for not only the reading process also the activity. It is easy to follow you during the whole class. The topic of the text is interesting and attractive as well. Maybe you can enrich your activities with more fun pictures because some gadgets may be abstract to imagine. Overall, you are good indeed, and I think you can be better.

  8. Hi everyone,
in my opinion SiTing's topic is very interesting since teenagers nowadays live in technology and they are dealing with gadget everyday. the article that she used is suitable for high profi form four students and she even highlighted the vocabulary that she wants to focus on. the worksheet that she gave also very interesting since she created it all by her own and the instructions on the worksheet were also clear.
Her weaknesses are she is not really strict in dividing the students into groups and she just let them to sit with their own friends. For the last activity which is debate,
it's quite confusing for the students because she didn't give a clear instruction and didn't facilitate students in discussing. However, she also did a great set induction by showing the IPAD to the class. it would be better if she lets students experienced it by giving them a chance to look through it.

  10. 1. She dresses properly as a teacher.
    2. The activities she used are suitable to students.
    3. She may need to work more on the coherence.

  11. I like Siting's work. It was very good. She contacts the lesson with daily life, and our own experience. that why we can easily get the theme of the lesson. there is a lot of funny pictures attract our attention. However, if her the voice be a little bit loud, the lesson would be splendid.
Anyway thanks for your lesson. I really enjoy it. Good job.

  12. Some time attire is really important for a class, like uniform for students, suite or other kind of formal attire show a good attitude of the teacher and also tells the students that they are truly valued by the teacher.

Siting`s lesson is well prepared and the activities are interesting and comprehensive. But I think the exercises are not enough or not suitable for the students of low proficiency level.
