Wang Yi's Summary

Wang Yi taught Summary writing to her students today.
Love the clip on summary writing. It couldn't have been better presented than this.
I like it. And you gave a task after the clip which asked students to discuss the steps in summary writing which were found from this clip. Like it too. However, when you went all technical and started to lecture the students on how to write a summary, I had to stop you. Remember NOT to overwhelm students with too much info per lesson. You can do this GRADUALLY. Not more than 2-3 points per lesson. Don't go on and on and on with notes like you're lecturing. Bear in mind that practice is always better than giving them theories, particularly for teenagers and children. They will get bored and stop paying attention.
I like the guide you gave and the VERY thorough explanation you provided for the students on summary writing. However, Fifi and I both think that there was some kind of confusion when there were 7 paragraphs in the original text but only 5 paras in the summary guide. We were both looking at main ideas from only the second paragraph to write the second paragraph in the guide. We didn't know that we needed to combine paras 2, 3, and 4. Perhaps, some explanations about this would be helpful to the students. You have to smile more Wang Yi...Anymore?

  1. Thanks for all the kindly suggestions from madam Adel, I'm really appreciate it. I'm looking forward to see the evaluations from all of you.

We discussed that should we put examples in our summary writing or not. I checked it online. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information about that. The only thing I found is do not write your own opinions.

    1. tq for the clip. On summary writing, try checking some Msian books at the bookstore: Popular? You should be able to find the structures there.

  2. Hi everyone,
Hi, wang yi, nice shoes that day! The video you presented was very interesting and attractive. I always believe that teachers play a happy song before starting lesson is a good choice. And your lesson plan was very clear. Before entering the writing part, you had given enough information and knowledge to help students prepare to write.

You just need to pay attention that “Don’t give too much to your students in one lesson”. If you teach too much knowledge, students will feel bored and distracted. Moreover, the writing part made me feel confused and scary. I did not know how to start writing. I think that if you ask students to write a summary around 100----150 words based on the whole reading material, it could be better and clear.
Overall, it was a good lesson. GOOD JOB!

  3. Hi everyone, i like the video she uses in set induction. A song has sing out the important details about summary writing. It

is very attractive. And her lesson's structure is very clear, the stages in her lesson is smooth. And she is very patience

to teach everything about summary writing to the students. She is well prepared, the video, the notes, the ppt, i can see

she put lots of efforts in this lesson. However, it is difficult to teach a new type of writing. You should take it slow,

step by step, you can not teach them everything in a 40 minutes lesson. Otherwise, there will be too many things to teach

and too any things to let the students to remember. The lesson will become very dry. Overall, i see improvement compare to

    your last lesson. well done!
