The Overly-friendly Vampire

My, my how friendly and generous you are Hemah. Some questions you posed were beautifully phrased but some needed work. for example, who don't understand? rephrase please. repeat needs not be used with again for example, repeat again. Hemah's lesson was enjoyable and fun. From the song, I had a dream, to getting a topic from a box to speak in front of the class, to rearrange jumbled up words to form proverbs, to creating postcards. Remember though that sts may step over you if you're waaay to nice. Have I missed anything?

  1. Hemah started her lesson with a clear, good voice to remind students what they have learnt in last week's class, which I think is vital to create a continuity in the lesson, so that students won't feel lost.

I feel that it is a good idea that Hemah actually asked Ellina what are her other dreams beside getting a new phone, to prompt students to speak more, especially for the figurative meaning of 'dreams'.

Hemah had a lot of interaction with the students which is really good as she brightens up the whole atmosphere of the classroom and make it oh-so-lively!

However, Hemah should be careful when interacting with the students as to not let them climb to the top of her head. She could be more stern in order to avoid having trouble with class control.

I actually really love the activity that Hemah prepared - the one where she asked students to randomly draw a topic and speak about it. I feel that it is really relevant to her topic and most importantly, it is closely related to student's personal experience/feelings and they can easily share and relate with the topic.

Lastly, Hemah could help lower proficiency students more by preparing a list of words that they can use when speaking about the topics that they have drawn from the box.

Good job anyways and please teach us again, I haven't get any chocs or notebook from you yet!! :D

  2. Hemah is adorable. Her voice projection is I believe the loudest among all of us ;) But it is clear and it grabs students' attention.
Her lessons are always full of passions and... rewards! It is a way :)
Activities are complex and well instructed. Great job!

For the part of 'being to friendly' as Wendy mentioned - In her case, I don't think it will be a big problem because of her voice (I believe she can roar if she needs to ;) ) plus students will like her and will appreciate that she is not strict and they can be more loose around her and joke around a little bit. This will be the classroom they will be looking forward to when they had a long stressful day or week..

She can make certain rules in order to avoid her students feeling TOO comfortable in her classroom, but from my own experience, students learn better and enjoy it when they like the teacher and they feel good around them. Something inside of them tells them that they shouldn't disappoint them! Unlike strict teachers that causes nausea among students and make them invent all kinds of excuses just so they don't have to attend the class.

    Great job, Teacher Hemmah!!

  3. Hemah's lesson was good "the dream " I had a dream ! self refelction .Pie has said it all ,the lesson focus skill was speaking, she needs to persuade the students to talk more about their dreams . Another thing ,I will like to suggest that the students dreams should be based on what they want to become in the nearest future and not based on material things like handphones :D Overall ,it was nice and lovely but no chocolates.

    1. Now you;re talking... YEs, too much focus on materials (or Rogayah *wink* Mubarak) is unhealthy. I agree. Focus on other non-worldly things - a volunteer at the orphanages, or with the Befrienders...something real and heartfelt.

  4. Hemah is a passionate teacher for sure. I think her energy and excitement will make her class more lively and enjoyable. She's likable because of her attitude; she's flexible and always give compliments, also appreciating every answer. Students will be more relax and not afraid of giving answer and opinions. She could set certain rules in her classroom and make sure to follow it strictly. This method will ensure the students know their limit and to not let them climb to the top of her head as Pei2 mentioned.

The activities was good. She did help the students when they have to present in front of the class by asking question and giving examples. She also came close to students whose going to present, a good sign of encouragement for them to speak in front. Well done!=)

  5. Good points—Hemah is such a passionate and rich teacher who rewards her students in every class. She can always think of interesting games to involve her students in the lesson such as draw lots. The continuity in her lesson is well demonstrated—“hope, dream”. She linked the topic to students’ real life and inspired them to pursue their dreams.
Aspects to work on—Students were too hyperactive in Hemah’s lesson. One the one hand, it means they really enjoyed her lesson; on the other, it might bring some disciplinary problems for her. It will be difficult to make students come back to the lesson. Additionally, it will be good if she provided help for low proficiency students since speaking is quite intimidating for plenty of shy and introvert students. Assisting activities can be providing vocabulary and phrases of the importance of having dreams.

  6. As usual Hemah always make a friendly and warm teacher. She always smile, and jokes with her students. She knows how to entertain her students well. I was a bit disappointed because we cannot finish the song..though it is not her fault..However, I do believe that in real classroom the students will feel more enthusiastic with a singing session as an intro for the lesson. Other than that, it was a good topic, I think it is relevant to students where they can relate it with their life. The activity was fun and interactive. Students were motivated to participate since the 'draw lot' activity have a sense of suspense in it. Despite all of the good things that she have done, I do agree with Bunmi, when he said that she should guide her students to talk more about what they want to become in the future rather than material things that they want. Overall, I like being in her class.
